Patrick Mahomes Ties Tom Brady for Fastest to 100 Career Wins

The record book had company on Sunday. In Kansas City's 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium, Patrick Mahomes earned his 100th regular-season win as a starting quarterback — and he needed just 131 starts to get there, tying Tom Brady for the fewest games started to reach the century mark, a record that stands since 1950.

Five years removed from the worst season of the Mahomes era — a 6-11 stumble in 2025 that ended for him with a torn ACL and LCL in Week 15 — Kansas City is 5-0, the only undefeated team left in the AFC, and its quarterback is suddenly standing next to the greatest of all time in the history books.

A milestone night with no touchdown passes

The irony of win No. 100 is that Mahomes never found the end zone. He finished 23-of-30 for 272 yards with one interception, leaving the scoring to Kenneth Walker III, who ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, including a 33-yard score that put Kansas City in control early. Harrison Butker added three field goals, and the defense did the rest — four sacks of Justin Herbert and a Charger offense held to 259 total yards and a pair of field goals.

It was, by Mahomes' own admission, the kind of game the old version of him might have tried to force. Down his top two receivers — Rashee Rice sat out with a hamstring injury and Tyquan Thornton remains sidelined with a dislocated ankle — Mahomes spread the ball to eight different teammates. Xavier Worthy delivered a season-high seven receptions for 73 yards, and rookie Cyrus Allen hauled in a 23-yard grab on first-and-20 that kept a key drive alive.

"As I've gone throughout my career, I think I've gotten better and better at winning," Mahomes said afterward, via NBC Sports. "It's not always pretty. It's not always how I want it to be. I want to throw three touchdowns, four touchdowns, and I want to put up big stats. But whenever your defense is playing like they are today, you can't force it. And after I forced that one early in the game, I just said, 'Hey, let's figure out the best way to win the football game,' and we were able to do that."

"I'm gonna keep winning"

Mahomes has spent so much of his career shadowing Brady's records that the postgame press conference felt like familiar territory — and he knew it.

"My honest first reaction is they've said this from 97 on," Mahomes said with a laugh, per NBC Sports. "I'm like, 'When did Tom lose another game?' Because I feel every game I win, I tie him. But in all seriousness, it's always an honor to be in any conversation as far as winning football with him. That's the GOAT. He knows how to win football better than anyone really in any other sport. And so, if you can be mentioned in any category with him, it's special."

He struck a similar note on the field with NFL on CBS, via Melanie Collins: "He's the GOAT, man. He was the one that's shown us how to do it by winning the Super Bowls and winning every single week. So, it's always an honor if you're mentioning [my name] with his name. But it seems like every time I win a game, I'm tying him, so I'm gonna keep winning."

What it means: the comeback is real

Context makes the milestone hit harder. Mahomes is less than a year removed from the devastating knee injury that ended his 2025 season, yet through five games his numbers look like the near-fully-healthy version of himself: a 66.5 percent completion rate, 1,309 passing yards, nine touchdowns against three interceptions, and 8.3 yards per attempt — his highest mark since the 2022 season, when Kansas City went on to beat Philadelphia in Super Bowl LVII, according to talkSPORT.

Head coach Andy Reid, per ESPN, put it simply: "We're lucky to have him. He does a heck of a job playing. He's a great player, a great leader."

The broader picture is just as encouraging. Kansas City is one of three undefeated teams remaining in the NFL, sitting first in the AFC West, with a ground game that has rebalanced the offense — Walker leads the league with 665 rushing yards through five games — and a defense that is starting to generate pressure again.

What's next: Seattle, and sole possession

Win No. 101 brings something even bigger: sole possession of the record, outright, ahead of Brady. Mahomes gets his shot on Sunday night, when the 5-0 Chiefs travel to Lumen Field to face the 3-3 Seattle Seahawks on NBC (7:20 p.m. CT).

The subplot writes itself. Walker — the former Seattle standout, now leading the league in rushing — returns to face the team that let him walk in the offseason, fired up on the league's loudest road stage. The Seahawks defense can control stretches against anyone, and Sam Darnold at home is a different proposition than the winless Chargers. But with Mahomes, the math is simple: one more win, and the record is his alone.

"I mean, there's so many more games I have to win and Super Bowls and all that different type of stuff," Mahomes said, per NBC Sports. "All I can focus on is today and winning today and then moving on to the Seahawks this next week."
